Sutherland House Victorian Bed & Breakfast is located minutes from the northern tip of Canandaigua Lake, in the heart of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Central New York. A few facts about our location:
About the Finger Lakes Region and Canadaigua, New York
Canandaigua and the Finger Lakes region of New York is the host of numerous activities throughout the year. Whether it is spring, summer, fall, or winter, in this bustling area you are never at a loss as to find a way to spend your time. Outdoor activities for all seasons will keep you busy - water sports, hiking, cycling, or skiing, among other things. Go "waterfalling" to view the beautiful waterfalls in the area. The Wine Trails and Brewery Trails host many wineries and breweries, as well as fantastic festivals. Routes 5 and 20 are an antique shoppers dream. The same route is filled with historic sites and museums. The very popular Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center ("CMAC") is the host of numerous concerts and top acts during the summer season. Here is just a sampling of the hundreds of activities and festivals which help to make this area so special.

Wineries & Breweries
With more than 100 wineries within a one hour's drive of Canandaigua, and almost as many breweries and distilleries, you will never get thirsty! There is something for everyone in the Finger Lakes - all types of wine, from the driest Riesling or Cabernet-Franc to the sweetest Ice Wine, from the hoppiest craft brew to the smoothest spirits, you can find it here. Many guests spend their days tasting the area's products. We would be happy to suggest a route and itinerary based upon your personal preferences. Throughout the year, the individual wine trails also host a number of festivals and events.

Beach and Picnic Areas
Sutherland House is only 1.5 miles from the North end of Canandaigua Lake, there you will find Kershaw Park where you can picnic, sunbath, swim, walk, relax and launch kayaks and canoes. If you are looking for something a bit outside of the hustle and bustle of town, just 20 minutes from Sutherland House is Onanda Park, where you will find a swimming area, gorgeous views of the hills and water, and a beautiful picnic area. We would be happy to provide a beach towel and chair for your use, and give you directions to the nearest stores or the Canandaigua Farmers Market (when in season) to gather all your picnic supplies! Boating and Water Sports
Tour the lake via water – take a ride on the Canandaigua Lady, or rent a boat and cruise on your own. Or, for our adventure seekers, explore the lake on a canoe or kayak, or enjoy a day paddle boarding, sailboarding, or windsurfing. You can also leisurely spend your time fishing or ice fishing at many spots along the lake!
*We have secure indoor storage to safely keep your canoe, kayak, small trailer, or other outdoor sporting equipment safe while you stay with us!

Skiing
Bristol Mountain – Downhill skiing, cross country/Nordic trails – only 15 minutes away
Hiking
There are a number of organized hiking areas and trails throughout the area. Check out the Finger Lakes Hiking Guide, which provides some hints at preparing as well as a list of the areas favorite trails. Some of the most popular areas are:
Onanda Park – 20 minutes down the west side of Canandaigua Lake, with miles and miles of trails
Ontario County Park – the highest scenic point in Western NY – mountain biking and hiking
Letchworth State Park , often referred as the "Grand Canyon of the East", and Watkins Glen State Park, are among the top rated parks in the nation. Both parks have beautiful waterfalls and nature areas.
