The Best Picnic Spots Around Canandaigua Lake

Summer is here and it’s almost criminal to not be outside enjoying this beautiful weather. For a romantic date night, a casual afternoon activity, or simply an excuse to get outside, here are the best picnic spots around Canandaigua Lake.

Kershaw Park

The most popular picnic spot in town is Kershaw Park. This massive lakeside park is right down the street from downtown and offers a wide array of picnic facilities. Stroll along the waterfront path and find your ideal spot. Choose from an open-air gazebo, a grassy lawn, or a quiet corner of the park.

Bare Hill Unique Area

Head towards the eastern side of Canandaigua Lake for open meadows and panoramic views. The Bare Hill Unique Area boasts one of the best sunset views in the Finger Lakes. There are excellent wildlife spotting opportunities from birds to squirrels and even the occasional sly fox. Hike to the upper meadow and enjoy an unparalleled view of Canandaigua Lake while you enjoy your picnic.

Grimes Glen

All the way past the bottom of Canandaigua Lake in Naples lies Grimes Glen, a well-known park surrounding Grimes Creek. Walk along the path to find magical waterfalls hidden in the forest. Find a grassy meadow, sunny rock, or string up a hammock between two trees. Dinner with a waterfall view? How could a picnic be more romantic?

Onanda Park

On the western side of Lake Canandaigua lies a small park on the water. This well-equipped park comes with grills, picnic tables, and well-kept grounds if you want to take your picnic to the next level with an all-out grill day. On the southern side of the park is a small stream making the perfect backdrop or you can dip your toes in the lake and enjoy your meal on the sandy waterfront.

Vine Valley Beach

This hidden pocket park is a popular kayak and canoe launch area on the eastern side of the lake. Enjoy the public gazebo or soak up some sun on the sandy beachfront. Finish off your picnic with cold ice cream from Vine Valley General Store just across the street from the beach.
