4 Fun Fall Activities near the Finger Lakes

Although each season brings something special to the area, fall is an incredible time to visit the Finger Lakes. The hills and forests that surround Canandaigua Lake flush with the warm tones of changing leaves. As the weather cools, we are reminded that autumn is here once again. Put on your coziest sweater, and start planning your next trip to Canandaigua!

1. Savor the Flavor of Fall

Pumpkin spice lattes, anyone? There’s a reason this seasonal drink stirs up a frenzy every year. Instead of supporting a global coffee chain, head to one of our charming, locally-owned coffee shops for a midday autumnal java. You can count on The Dalai Java on Main Street to serve you a tasty fall-inspired drink. Last season, they served delicious Bourbon Apple Pie frappes and lattes! Drive-up shop Coffee Cures Everything also celebrates the seasons through coffee. They even offer maple vanilla whip for an extra flavor boost!

2. Admire Fall Foliage

We are lucky here in Canandaigua to experience four unique seasons. In the fall each year, leaves all over town change color from green to vibrant red, yellow and orange hues. Remember when we talked about Carolabarb Park in our Engagement Photo Locations post? It’s an even better photo spot in the fall! Colorful leaves fill up the foreground, as the beautiful Canandaigua Lake shines in the background. 3. Take a Picnic Lunch

Autumn is one of the best seasons to drive out somewhere pretty, spread out a blanket, and enjoy a picnic lunch. The air holds a refreshing chill which makes it just cold enough to sip on a a thermos full of hot chocolate and mini marshmallows. Since we assume you don’t travel with enough supplies for a full picnic, consider recruiting your innkeeper for help. Ask your innkeeper if you can order a cheese & fruit plate to-go. As you plan the ultimate lunch, research the best picnic spots around Canandaigua Lake!

4. Participate in the Harvest

Whether you pick a pumpkin from a patch or snag some berries from the vine, fall is the time to harvest. If you crave the photo ops and nostalgic fun of a classic pumpkin patch, head to Wickham Farms in Penfield. Instead of paying admission fees, stick to the free section. You’ll be able to nosh on apple cider donuts and pose for photos galore, without paying for the activities geared toward children. Another fun harvest idea is to pick your own fruits and vegetables at G and S Orchards in Walworth. Celebrate the joys of fall by hand-selecting cherries, apples, pumpkins, and a wide variety of berries. Moreover, join the festivities at the annual Naples Grape Festival. Snack on grape-themed foods, enjoy live music, and taste test local wines!
